David A. Reed, former elder in the Watchtower sect

During a leave of absence from Harvard University where he was majoring in government on a National Merit Scholarship, Reed was recruited by Jehovah’s Witnesses. He married Penni, raised a J.W., and went on to become presiding overseer of a Kingdom Hall. Thirteen years later, Reed began reading the Bible itself – with the aim of becoming a better Jehovah’s Witness – but instead encountered the risen Christ.

Since his departure from Watchtower, Reed has spoken on cults on TV and radio. He taught in 1997 and 2015 at the annual School of Theology at Spurgeon’s Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, and has authored 20 books on counter-cult apologetics and eschatology.
